The Power Center of the Body
The third chakra is also known as the naval chakra because its location is where the umbilicus is attached at birth. However, as our body matures, its location drops to about three finger widths below the navel. It is the center that provides us with the energy to do all the activities of life.
Because it is the power center of the body, the third chakra is also the source of our psychic boundaries. For how can we have empowerment if we allow others to usurp our power?
Some people and dark entities wish to hijack our energy and take it for themselves. Sometimes people do this unconsciously because they learned to manipulate when they were children. Unconditional love was denied to them, and the only way they could receive energy and attention was through deception.
When they become adults, they may attempt to achieve this by trying to make us feel “uncentered” and cause us to turn against ourselves so that we can be more easily controlled.[1] But this is not possible if we stay “centered” in our third chakra – for, then our boundaries will remain inviolate.
The protective spiritual power of the third chakra is symbolized by Guardian Beings such as the angels Michael, Gabriel, or Raphael. These Spiritual Protectors safeguard us from energies that want to undermine our spiritual progress.
The Universal Law of Free Will says that we have the sovereign right to decide our own spiritual destiny without interference.[2] But that right is only ours if we claim it. That is why we must ask the Angels and Higher Beings to lend their assistance – for because They respect the law of freewill, They cannot help us unless we request it.
In addition to the assistance of Angels and Higher Beings we must learn to draw upon the power of the third chakra. Only by developing it can we protect the precious gift of free will that was imparted to us by the Divine. We are the Divine’s children and it celebrates the special qualities of each one of us. It wants us to awaken according to our gifts. But this can only happen if we are safe from outside interference. That is why It has imbued the third chakra with the power of protection.
Healthy Anger
Healthy anger can be a part of spiritual boundaries. An example of that is when Christ turned over the tables of the money changers in the Holy Temple of Jerusalem.[3] Another is the righteous anger of Archangel Michael when he led a host of angels to battle evil.[4]
Healthy anger can also be used to mobilize our energy so that we can break through spiritual limitations such as negative habits and beliefs. But if anger is held onto for too long it can become toxic for the person feeling it. For it is the emotion that we harbor the most that will determine our path. And only love can guide us Home.
But anger when rightly directed, sometimes has its purpose. To use it wisely, we must master it and get to know it well. For only then can it be under our control and serve the highest good. Otherwise, if left to fester in the unconscious, it can become a very destructive force – both for the person feeling it and for anyone they act out upon.
Balance and Equanimity
The third chakra also provides us with the equanimity that is at the core of our psychic and spiritual health. This is why, we should bring our presence to it as much as possible. This will provide us with the fortitude to withstand the tests of life.
Supporting Higher Consciousness
The third chakra and those below it support the higher spiritual states produced by the upper chakras. They do this by providing energy, equilibrium, and a connection with the Earth. This last gift creates a vital counter-balance to the powerful upward movement of energy that happens when the higher chakras awaken. Without these qualities, higher spiritual states would not be sustainable.
How to Cultivate the Chakras
There are many teachings for cultivating the chakras. They can be found in Hinduism, Taoism, and Western spirituality. The Hebrew Kabbalah has a similar tradition. Analogous teachings occur in Pueblo and other indigenous cultures.
Some of the techniques they utilize to increase the power of the chakras employ sacred sounds – such as the Bija Mantras of Yoga. Others use physical poses, for example the movements of tai chi or the asanas of hatha yoga. Another approach is to focus within a chakra while doing breathing techniques such as in pranayama. Some seekers repeat affirmations to bring forth the chakra’s gifts while bringing their attention deep within it. Still others use visualizations such as the yantras of Tibetan Buddhism.
The Power of Consciousness
All of these techniques are simply means of focusing our consciousness within the chakra we want to develop. For when we bring our loving attention within an area of our body-field, that part of ourselves flourishes.
Loving Attention + Perseverance = Empowerment
Learning to direct our consciousness is the quintessential tool for realization. The power of that focus is greatly increased by positive emotions. So when you bring your mind within a chakra, fill it with the thoughts that most awaken your love.
To succeed we must be patient, and know that results happen over days, months and years of practice. Above all we must remember that love is the key to transformation – and that must begin with loving oneself.
Manifesting Our Reality
The Divine has given us the ability to create ourselves anew through the power of our thoughts. But to achieve this, we must apply certain principles. The most important of them is to learn to use our one-pointed attention – for whatever we give the most energy to with our thoughts, ultimately, we will become.
For this reason, it is essential that we become aware of the sub-conscious chatter of our minds. Are we repeating thoughts of empowerment and realization? Or are we dwelling on those that sabotage us and make us weaker? Our thoughts will shape our future self.
Attitude
Our thoughts are important, but so also is our attitude. As much as we can, that should always be loving kindness. We should always proceed gently on the spiritual path. Forcing or pushing ourselves to extremes can set us backwards and do us harm.
How do we know if our attitude is correct? If we listen to the wisdom deeply within the third chakra, it will tell us.
How Trauma Can Obstruct the Chakras
Unhealed trauma and psychic pain can interfere with the healthy function of the chakras. This is why negative thoughts and memories sometimes come up when we internalize our consciousness. They are being shown to us so that they can be healed.
Bringing our attention within a chakra for the first time can be like turning on the lights in an abandoned room. Suddenly negative thoughts appear like cobwebs shrouding our sight. These memories must be released so that the gifts of the chakra can shine forth.
To heal such memories, we must witness them with love and compassion. To see them may be uncomfortable at first, but remember they don’t come to torment us, but to bring spiritual lessons. As we become deeply aware of them and there reason, great wisdom will be gained.
Summary of the Third Chakra’s Gifts
The physical gift of the third chakra is unlimited energy – not only for our health, but to meet the myriad challenges of life.
The third chakra also provides us with equanimity. This is of crucial importance – for only when there is the balance can we achieve our Divine Potential.
Messages From the Third Chakra:
“I provide energy for all of life’s activities.”
“I bring balance and equanimity to the body and mind. I empower all the other chakras.”
“I support higher spiritual states so that they can become a seamless part of life.”
“Bring your consciousness to me for balance, fulfillment, and health.”
[1] I use the word “uncentered” because it is an attempt to move us away from our “power center” in the third chakra. For as long as we stay focused there, our boundaries cannot be violated. But when we begin to doubt and have negative thoughts about ourselves, our attention naturally moves away from this place in the body.
[2] Some might ask, “If we have the right to determine our spiritual destiny, then why is there tyranny and oppression in this world?”
By “interference” I am referring to those dark energies that seek to usurp our free will and control our minds. They seek to make us give up and stop making the effort to turn to love. Our spiritual destiny is not determined by the challenges we face but our reactions to them. Will we respond with hatred or with love? The choice is ours.
