The final step of the session supports the transition from the trance state to normal consciousness. My goals for this part of the session include providing a safe and supportive space for the client’s return to normal consciousness, and aiding in the recall of what they experienced in the session.
Clients typically go much deeper in the sessions than they realize. For this reason, it is important for them to the take time to relax deeply as they return to the normal conscious state. This allows the nervous system time to gradually make this shift, and also helps provide the continuity of consciousness necessary to support recall.
The client’s ability to remember the information they received during the session is essential to any lasting gain. But remembering events after returning from a deep trance can sometimes be difficult.
Just as dreams are often forgotten upon awakening, sometimes we fail to retain memories far outside the context of normal day-to-day awareness. This contextual shift makes it easy for the mind to later invalidate what it perceived during supernormal states. However, because I also witnessed the client’s experiences, I can help support their process of recall.
During the transition period I encourage the client to be completely quiet and relaxed. I don’t speak except for making a few gentle suggestions that he or she will remember any information that is useful for her, and that she will be able to effortlessly resume her normal activities. I watch over her and maintain a field of protective energy around her during her return.
At this time the Guides and Higher Beings may also share words of advice and wisdom for the client to carry with her into her life. After she fully resumes everyday consciousness, she may want to discuss events that happened during the session. This will further support her process of recall and integration.
